Heavenly Music Competition 2. One of a kind by Acumen. 16th position. (Score: 85,5%) Anders' comments: Synth pop groove, with effects panned in an insteresting manner. On top of this there's a thin melancholic digi-string chord arrangement. After this sweeping intro, a subtle piano starts playing a quick but soft solo melody, accompanied by a wider spectra of strings, and a bassline which has been mended really nicely into the background. Stereo effects, echoing, panning; everything has been taken into consideration. Nothing has been overdone. Unfortunately, that also means the overall impression is a little too pale. It's only during the most obvious piano outburst that the song appears in full bloom. Productionwise, "One of a kind" leaves little to wish for, but I get the impression of feelings not fully released. A more pompous interlude, perhaps? A's Score: 86% Lisa's comments: Although that beat sure is borderline, consiting of a point blank snare, whiplash synth pads and a rapid pace, this piece actually manages to prove itself worthy of belonging to the HMC song crew. The harmonies are melancholic, tender yet dramatic - which increases the overall creativity. The instruments, chosen to perform these wonderful harmonies, are quite perfect for the proper conveyance. That piano sample is true heaven, with its crystal clearness, and the essential digistrings are nicely placed more to the back. All in all, very nicely arranged. The melody line isn't that consistent, and a bit hard to follow, which causes the song to drift off into space, instead of catching your attention, let alone remaining there. Towards the ending segment, those airy percussive sounds - played along with some strings - give me the false impression that the violin sample has a rather nasty side-noise. Listening again, I realize I was mistaken, but this could be something worth looking into. Generally, a great piece of musical experience, but due to those flaws, nothing close to winning material.
